As companies diversify their executive leadership in light of the recent Black Lives Matter protests, many have looked to partner with notable public figures to help shape their company’s futures. Last week, fashion brand, Ralph Lauren, announced the appointment of former Obama administration senior advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to the board of directors.

“Ralph Lauren’s purpose-driven culture and focus on aspiration, timelessness, and optimism have long inspired me,” said Jarrett in a press statement. “I am honored to join the company’s board of directors and look forward to contributing to the company’s continued growth and success and to building on the longevity of this admired organization.”

In addition to her new role, Jarrett is also a senior distinguished fellow at the University of Chicago Law School as well as a senior advisor to the Obama Foundation and media company ATTN. She has previously worked as the president and CEO of The Habitat Co. and served eight years with the Chicago government on different projects.

“We are pleased to welcome Valerie to the Ralph Lauren Board of Directors. Valerie is a proven and highly respected leader with a clear passion for citizenship and making a positive impact on the world,” said Ralph Lauren, executive chairman, and chief creative officer in a press statement.

“Valerie’s breadth of experience across the public and private sectors and unparalleled expertise in government, law, and leadership will bring a new perspective as we continue to build the future for our iconic company.”

“Valerie’s unique perspective and insights as one of the country’s most distinguished leaders make her an excellent addition to the Ralph Lauren Board,” said Patrice Louvet, president and chief executive officer in the statement. “Her experience across the public and private sectors will be invaluable as we continue to write the Next Great Chapter for our company.”
