Representative Cedric Richmond will be joining President-elect Joe Biden as a senior adviser according to The New York Times.

In this position, Senior Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, he is poised to become one of the highest-ranking Black officials in the Biden administration.

On Tuesday at a press conference in New Orleans, Richmond had stated that he will “offer advice to the president when he wants it, maybe sometimes when he doesn’t want it.”

“He’s going to give straight advice,” said Marc H. Morial, the president of the National Urban League and a former mayor of New Orleans, who has known Richmond since his days serving in the Louisiana state legislature. “He’s not a yes man.”

“It sends a really powerful signal to the Black community that Cedric is going to be in that core group,” added Morial, also describing Richmond as a “team player.”

Maybe Ice Cube will get to fully discuss his Contract With Black America with Richmond that he has been proposing. Last month, Richmond had appeared on SiriusXM’s The Joe Madison Show and denied that the Biden campaign had told Ice Cube that they would get back to him after the election.

“I like the fact that Ice Cube is getting engaged in policy,” Richmond told Madison. “I think that is a good thing, however, once you embark on getting into it, one, you have to be truthful, but two, you have an obligation, I think, to see it through and to be thorough with it. Our plan is very thorough. I won’t say he has a skeleton plan, but he has an outline of things, he has an outline of things that should be done.”

The 47-year-old politician was first elected to Congress in 2010 after serving as a state representative in the Louisiana Legislature.
