The NAACP will host a virtual town hall event Wednesday, December 16, to discuss the coronavirus vaccine that is making its way across the country.

Congressional experts, guest speakers, and health experts will join NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson to provide information and guidance on vaccine research information, availability, and distribution. The latest in a series of town halls is titled “Unmasked: COVID Vaccines” and will take place at 8 p.m. EST.

“As we’re hearing more about the potential end of COVID-19’s devastating grip on the lives of Americans and people around the world, African Americans are voicing understandable concern and skepticism about the vaccines and treatments being developed,” NAACP Senior Director of Health Programs Dr. Marjorie Innocent said in a statement. “The dynamic speakers in this installment of our COVID: Unmasked town hall series will provide clear information to help us understand vaccine development, approval, availability, and distribution.

The coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 16 million Americans and killed more than 307,000. However, it’s had a devastating effect on Black Americans. The virus has not only infected and killed more Black Americans than other races, but the pandemic has affected Black Americans at an economic level.

CNN Correspondent April Ryan will host the town hall, which will feature appearances from New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, former American Medical Association President Patrice Harris, Biden Advisory Board co-chair Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith, and other medical professionals.

Those who attend can also participate via an interactive toll-free conference call on the NAACP website. Those interested in being part of the discussion can dial 866-757-0756 or can ask a question on Twitter during the event by following @NAACP.

The NAACP has held several virtual events during the pandemic to inform Black Americans on receiving Paycheck Protection Program funds, how and when to get tested, and voting during the pandemic.
