The legacy of Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has influenced a new generation of entrepreneurs and individuals looking to close the racial wealth gap across Black communities in the U.S. One man is using that inspiration to start his own streaming service in honor of the historic Black neighborhood.

Tulsa-native Darnell Washington is the founder of Black Wall Street TV, a streaming platform dedicated to providing content focused around the Black experience. Washington, who has over 30 years of experience working in the television and media industry as an executive, says the network will be the ultimate testament to the legacy of Black Wall Street.

“The network plans to honor and celebrate the anniversary by embodying the entrepreneurial spirit of the original Black Wall Street Ancestors while providing a variety of programming to its viewers,” said Washington to Black Business.

Washington also adds that the network plans on taking advantage of the growing demand for Black content and wants to use the platform to preserve the legacy of Black Wall Street in honor of those who lost their lives during the 1921 massacre.

“As part of the success that was built in the Tulsa area, the Black Wall Street TV Network is becoming part of the vibrant community that now enhances all types of business of different races and a variety of businesses. And, it was all made possible by those who were sacrificed in the 1921 Race Massacre!” the company wrote on its website.

“Just as before, you will find restaurants, hotels, a barbershop, salon, gift shops, a baseball stadium, banks, apartments, and many more. This network is now part of the success of the Black Wall Street environment. And just like the Black Wall Street on Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma, you will find programs that embody the success of every kind of variety.”
